SIGNAL 002
When scrolling stops being promotion and becomes the screen
For years, vertical video has lived around content: trailer, clip, teaser, promotion, discovery. But that boundary is beginning to move.
Vertical microdrama matters less because of its duration than because of the behavioural shift it points to.
This is not simply about shorter episodes or adapting a story to a vertical screen. What matters is that a form of consumption born on mobile is beginning to claim its own narrative space.
When the environment where we discover a story also becomes the place where we consume it, something deeper than format changes.
Vertical is no longer necessarily a later adaptation. It can become the work’s first form.
That does not mean it will replace cinema, television or traditional streaming. It means a story can have different forms of existence depending on the kind of relationship it wants to build with its audience.
A screen is not only a technical surface. It is also a behaviour, a rhythm, an expectation and a form of relationship.
Perhaps the question is no longer which screen we are producing for.
But which audience behaviour we are producing for.
